Mekong Delta mitigates saltwater intrusion damages
Proactive prevention measures and “proper” restructuring of crop cultivation in the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta have proved effective in mitigating saline intrusion in the 2021-22 dry season.
The delta normally faces saltwater intrusion in the dry season which lasts from December to April, severely impacting agricultural production and the lives of locals.
To cope with saltwater intrusion in the just concluded dry season, farmers implemented various prevention measures as advised by local authorities, including building temporary saltwater prevention dams and storing freshwater.
